If you’ve decided to get a third party home inspection, kudos to you!
Yes the inspection will cost you a few hundred dollars, but as you’ve already decided your exposure to possible safety and maintenance problems pales in comparison to the small inspection fee.
Now that you’ve made the decision to invest in a home inspection, the question becomes how to get the biggest bang for your buck. One of the best ways to do that is to be an active participant in your inspection and ask the right questions!
It’s important to understand that quality home inspectors welcome and appreciate questions from the home owner. Let’s face it-we love the business of homes and helping you make great memories. So working with an engaged (not to mention educated!) client makes it a home run for both you and us.

I totally agree with you in that it is always a good idea to be a part of the process when working with a building inspector. It is important to remember that doing some research and understand your own needs can help you get the best inspection of your building. We are planning on buying a house and want to get it inspected to know how safe it is, so I’m glad I found your page.
Hi Marc,
So glad you’re enjoying my content! Good luck with the house search and let me know if you’re in the Central Illinois area and I can help with the inspection.
My parents are thinking about buying an older home as a rental property. I love your point about how having a building inspector come out can show your safety and maintenance problems that you might not see. I also think it’s good to have some questions ready to ask them when they get there.
Lucy, so glad you found some helpful information on the site! Best of luck to your parents on their endeavor!
Just before moving out of our old home last year, we had a hard time tracking down a home inspector before closing on our deal. It’s great that you mentioned that a quality home inspector will welcome questions because that becomes how he/she gets the most bang for their buck. Thank you for all the of the information regarding home inspections!
Glad you found our information helpful Vivian!
It got me when you said that inspections will allow me to know more about my possible needs for safety and maintenance, so it is best to have it done. I will mention this to the boss since he intends to buy a new property in the future. Surely he would want a property that will not give him problems considering how he is trying to save money, so it is wise that he invests in an inspection in the near future.
Glad you found our information helpful. Let us know if we can help further.
I like what you shared about questions being appreciated when it comes to clarifying information with a home inspector. Hiring a white glove inspection service may be a great way to assure potential buyers that your home is safe and up-to-code. My neighbor is getting ready to sell her home, so I’ll suggest she boost her home’s value by hiring a professional inspector to take a look.
Sam, You’re right. Pre-listing inspections are a great tool that not many folks use. Best of luck to your daughter!
At work, we are thinking of doing a new building inspection so that we know the depreciation on estimated life left on the building. I think that the articles you link to are great to ask a commercial building inspection service along with a residential one. I’ll be sure to check them out so that I can ask the right questions.
Michael, sounds like you’re doing your homework well!
The Best 5 questions to be asked are really best. Thank you for those great tips on how the building inspection to be carried. Great post. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed the post Stella!
I do agree with you that you should always ask questions when it comes to home inspections. Personally, I don’t really know anything that should be specifically looked at as they would know the answers. I’d also be sure whoever was doing the inspection, knew what they were doing and had the proper training to do so.
Great advice Caden!
